Bon Sun Sunim receives Inka!

Congratulations to Bon Sun Sunim JDPS!

A joyous congratulations to Bon Sun Sunim, who received inka, or "permission to teach", and became a Ji Do Poep Sa Nim of the Kwan Um School of Zen on March 6, 2021, at Su Bong Zen Monastery, Hong Kong.

Bon Sun Sunim JDPS was born in Malaysia, and she became a Buddhist in the Pure Land school in 1996. After she relocated to Singapore, Bon Sun Sunim JDPS encountered the Kwan Um School of Zen practice in 1998 at Kwan Yin Chan Lin Zen Centre. Thereafter, she joined the three-month Kyol Che retreat at Hwa Gye Sa in Korea in the winter of 1999 and Musangsa in the summer of 2002. At the conclusion of her second Kyol Che, she began haengja training at Musangsa. In 2003, she moved to Su Bong Zen Monastery in Hong Kong, ordained as a nun and received monastic training under Zen Master Dae Kwan. She joined numerous Kyol Ches for more than 20 years at Musangsa, Su Bong Zen Monastery, and later also at Diamond Hill Zen Center (Providence, Rhode Island) and a Korean Bhikkhuni Zen Hall (Baek Hung Am), as well as solo retreats in Korea and Malaysia. In 2021, she received inka (permission to teach) from Zen Master Dae Kwan at Su Bong Zen Monastery.
